Vectorworks & Cinema 4D Tutorials

T R A I N I N G

I’ve been teaching 3D in Vectorworks and Cinema 4D for over 10 years for the USA 829 Union, as a guest speaker, and as an adjunct professor at NYU Tisch: Dept. of Stage and Film and FIT’s Visual Presentation and Exhibition Design programs. Below is a collection of free tutorials to get you started in the transition from 2D to 3D in Vectorworks. This series assumes you have a basic knowledge of working with 2D shapes and geometry. More videos will be added to this series - you can head over to my YouTube channel and subscribe if you would like to be updated when new videos are launched.

01: Extrude. Getting started with 3D in Vectorworks. Extruding 2D geometry into 3D objects.

02: Extrude Along Path. The second major principle of VW 3D and great for molding, picture frames and even architecture.

03: Sweep. The third major principle of VW 3D. Learn to sweep 2D profiles into more complex geometry.

04: Navigation. A quick overview of the easiest way to look at and work with your models while you are building them.

VW Quicktip 01: Polyline Tool. Master drawing curved and straight segment lines with one tool.

VW Quicktip 02: Hybrid Symbols. How to get a good 2D ground plan of your 3D objects that live together.

Elevations and Sections from a 3D model for TV & Film. Working through taking a 3D model and laying out elevation and section views in Vectorworks. After a lot of research and trial and error of laying out plates with viewports for each view and detail, we found the files to be too processor intensive and inefficient on smaller machines and laptops. This is one method to help lighten the load. Your milage may vary.

Revolve With Rail. How to make asymmetrical domes and structures in 3d.
