Spent the Summer working with our pals over at Tribe, inc. on the Eminem and Rihanna Summer Monster Tour. Renders are up in the main gallery, but here is an early design exploration for Em's Entrance moment. Ultimately, the whole design shifted direction, but I always liked this sketch.
This is me, if you don't know. Cell phone headshot, mapped onto a military portrait and then let loose with the photoshop and overlay. Then, of course - it needs context....
We were thrilled this year to support Bruce Rodgers and Tribe, Inc. with renderings for the Halftime show featuring Bruno Mars. Thanks for the opportunity to help put together such a huge show. Here's a few outtakes and early drafts.
Working on rendering Neon. Not quite there yet, but making progress.
All the work on here still starts out as a hand sketched idea before going into 3D - especially details and connections, so I know what the goal is. I traditionally used pen and paper for this, but the last year or so I've done it all on my iPad - using the Paper app and a Wacom stylus. It took a while to get comforatable, but now I don't even think about it. My scanner is collecting serious dust.
Playing with HOT4D: the Houdini Ocean Tookit which has been ported over to Cinema 4d. Amazing way to create water really quickly and animate it. Still learning and working on getting some foam and spray. Not sure this will help for rendering retail environments, but good to know and see how these things work underneath the hood.
New Rendering work posted on the site. I've been focusing on lighting and texturing/materials lately. So much to learn! Summer is coming. Here's my favorite from the batch : this is why my friend Chris calls me the Prince of Darkness.....
Added some new content to the rendering section and updated the coverpage image today. It's been a very busy spring this year and look forward to sharing more work soon.
I've ranted about websites that don't update their blogs many times, and here I am, 7 months in the hole myself. I've aded some new work and and looking to do a larger update soon. 2012 has been a busy year, lots of NDA projects, so not a lot to share, but excited about the upcoming fall projects and hope to share more soon.
Still playing with photo integration. Here is a 3d smart car added to a photo from the Standard hotel in LA. Not the nicest rendering, but a good start to matching the lighting.
Also playing with photo mapping 3D elements to blend into their backgrounds. Here are two Camaro tests - an interesting idea that needs more exploration.
We just finished a great show in London for Nickelodeon. They asked for a more upscale version of the Las Vegas set. Big props to Chris Goldsmith who went and art directed the project on site.
...and some detail from the 3D:
Been experimenting with adding 3D objects into existing photographs. Interested to see if it is an option to add select elements to location photos instead of building out the whole space in some cases. Seems to all depend on the photos i.e. a field is easier then a retail store. More work to be done here.
Just back from Nashville and Las Vegas. We designed the after party for the CMT Music Awards in Nashville and then another job for our favorite clients at Nickelodeon in Las Vegas. Here's some tight shots from some of the 3D work.
Playing with creating 3D grass in Cinema 4D. We have a bunch of outdoor renders coming down the line, so I wanted to spend some time getting this right. This is just a first pass, but shows a lot of promise.
The 2011 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts is up and running. We were happy to help support designer Mimi Lien bring her vision of Paris to the Kimmel Center. Get down there this month and check it out!
Updated the website today and added some new content. Just back from LA: designed the party for Nickelodeon's Kid's Choice Awards 2011. Slime on!

Animation Test 005 from Evan Alexander on Vimeo.
Testing rolls on. Having a lot of fun with this. Just trying to get a few more things moving at the same time to try to sort out keyframing and timing. Trying to think more about motion and lighting and less about 3D.Animation Test 004 from Evan Alexander on Vimeo.
More work with Cinema 4D and After Effects.
